Two Power Projects Completed In Afghanistan's Kapisa
MAHMUD RAQI,
Jan 31 Asia Pulse -
Tuesday January 31, 08:31 PM -- MAHMUD RAQI, Jan 31 Asia Pulse - Two small power
projects have successfully been completed under the National Solidarity
Programme (NSP) in Kohistan district of the central Kapisa province, an official
said on Monday.
Huge, diesel-fired generators, with a collective
capacity to produce 45 kilowatts of electricity, will light up two villages
comprising 345 houses. Residents of Khwaja Mirkhel and Panahkhel will benefit
from the projects that were formally completed on Monday.
Abdul Ahmad Ahmadi, in charge of NSP in Kapisa, told
Pajhwok Afghan News the power projects - meeting a longstanding demand of the
residents - cost more than a million afghanis (US$20,346).
A 65-year-old dweller of the area, Abdul Shakoor,
recalled they had demanded the thermal energy projects following the
constitution of the NSP Council some time back. "Finally, the residents have
been rid of the problem of fires resulting from oil lamps and lanterns."
